IK Gymnastics

Gymnastics Coach

Chicago, IllinoisPart-time
$20 - $25 hourly
About the Job
About the Role:
IK Gymnastics in North Center—one of Chicago’s safest and most family-friendly neighborhoods—is looking for positive, reliable people to join our coaching staff. Due to high demand and growing waitlists, we are continuously expanding our programs and adding coaches at every experience level.

No experience? Start with a 40-hour paid training period ($17/hr), then immediately move to $20–$25+/hr once training is complete. You’ll work alongside experienced coaches as a class assistant before leading your own classes. Experienced coaches receive higher starting pay and a faster path to leading—all coaches shadow our current staff to learn IK’s structure before coaching on their own. Applicants ages 15 and up are welcome. Work permits required for
those under 18.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • $17/hr during 40-hour paid training period.
  • $20–$25+/hr immediately after training, based on experience.
  • $40,000+/year full-time salary at 32+ hrs/week.
  • Full-time benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, HSA, PTO, and Paid Sick Leave.
  • Pay increases over time based on experience, reliability, and the value you bring. All experience levels have room to grow.
Schedule:
  • Monday–Saturday (Sundays closed). Most coaching takes place weekday evenings (3:30–8:00 PM during the school year, 3:30–7:30 PM in summer) and Saturdays (8:30 AM–5:00 PM school year, 8:30 AM–2:00 PM summer—coaches work morning, midday, or afternoon shifts).
  • Weekday morning preschool classes are also available for coaches who enjoy working with younger children—these are staffed based on interest, not assigned by default. Part-time schedules are flexible, from 2 to 6 days per week. We build schedules around your availability and preferences wherever possible.
What We Look For:
  • Positive, patient, and encouraging role model for children.
  • Comfortable working with kids of all ages in an active environment.
  • Reliable and consistent—our families count on you showing up.
  • Eager to learn and grow, regardless of prior experience.
  • Gymnastics or coaching experience is valued and may result in higher starting pay, but it is not required.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Lead or assist gymnastics classes for students ranging from toddlers to competitive athletes.
  • Spot students safely and help set up and break down equipment for each class.
  • Create a supportive, energetic, and fun environment for every student.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Complete a brief end-of-shift facility reset (~20 minutes) as needed: put away mats, wipe down equipment, and tidy your work area. This is a standard part of the full-time role and may be assigned to part-time staff as needed.
  • This role is physically active. Coaches should be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, including regular standing, walking, lifting children during spotting, and moving mats and equipment throughout their shift.
After You’re Hired: The following are required after an offer is extended (not to apply):
  • Fingerprint background check (required by Illinois law for children’s facilities), which IK Gymnastics will reimburse the cost of.
  • SafeSport Certification (free online course). The following are required depending on extent of responsibilities, typically for coaches traveling to meets and full-time staff. IK Gymnastics fully covers the cost of each:
    • USAG Membership & Safety Certification
    • CPR & First Aid training offered on-site (not required, but available at no cost when held).
How to Apply:
Email your resume to info@ikgym.com. References are welcome but not required—strong references can influence your starting pay and position. We’ll guide you through the rest.
